TESS has an assertive attitude towards development and expansion, and they are now establishing a base on Gran Canaria.
By Lasse Brekke
Gran Canaria comes from a long tradition of trading with West Africa. The island is a hub connecting Europe to the rest of the world, and its location is strategic in relation to vessels and rigs passing to and from European waters.
It is a natural pit stop for rigs and vessels operating in South America and West Africa. Here they get service and repairs done for preparation and approval of entry into Europe.
Several Norwegian and international companies has set up bases here in the last few years, and the demand and need for TESS’ products and services is increasing. This goes especially for the oil & gas market, and the maritime sector.
6 months long recruitment process
TESS wanted two employees to operate the department at Gran Canaria. The influx was considerable, and with more than 200 applicants TESS needed more than six months on the recruitment process.
The choice for Sales Director fell on Eduardo Gil Ruiz. Ruiz has a master’s degree in sales, and he has experience from working with sales on an international level.
Rajiv Kripalani is hired as General Manager/ Technical Director. Kripalani has a master’s degree in project management, and have previously led several maintenance-projects on oilrigs and vessels. Together, Ruiz and Kripalani will operate TESS Canarias.
Official opening and expo-activity
TESS is currently renting offices and a warehouse from Gran Canaria Sub Sea and Offshore Base (GCSB), in the city of Arinaga on Gran Canaria.
The 26th of February, Ruiz and Kripalani arrived at TESS in Norway for training. Three weeks of intensive courses at TESS’ main office was the plan, including 1/3 on hoses, 1/3 on THM and 1/3 on the remaining subjects.
Saga Subsea is arranging the “2nd Oil and Gas Days” expo the 22nd – 23rd of March at Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. Operational Director THM Jan Georg Tunes and TESS Vest’s CEO Erlend Gjerdevik represents TESS alongside Ruiz and Kripalani. The main focus of the stand will be TESS Hose Management.
The company is not officially in place yet, but Tunes says the opening is imminent.
-The registration process is extensive, and we have hired a firm to help us with this job. The company is estimated to be registered and publicly approved shortly, allowing TESS Hose Management Operations Canarias to be operational by tsshe end of March, Tunes tells us.
