Tuesday the 18th of April marked the opening of the new shop at Statoil’s LNG-plant at Melkøya in Hammerfest. TESS Partnershop Statoil Melkøya is the shops official name, and it represents cooperation between Statoil and TESS where the goal is a smarter and more affordable supply-service for items for operation and maintenance at Melkøya.
The Partnershop serves both Statoil and other businesses that have work assignments at Melkøya. It started out with two FTEs as a budget, but will when needed reinforce their staff in a seamless partnership with TESS Hammerfest. Other local specialists may be brought in for individual projects. TESS Partnershop Statoil Melkøya is the third Partnershop in Statoil and TESS’ collaboration.
Party at the venue
There was a feeling of conviviality at the venue when more than fifty representatives from Statoil and TESS gathered for the official opening with speeches, simple serving and the symbolic coupling of hoses. During the speeches the fact that TESS Partnershop Statoil Melkøya is standing on its own two feet were emphasized, that the creation of value is local and serves the local community. By gathering the supply services for operation and maintenance products the administrative costs will be reduced and the level of service will be increased, all thanks to smarter work. Other contributors that work for Statoil at Melkøya can easily get short-travelled products and services at the Partnershop, and thus the everyday work becomes easier.
For TESS this Partnershop means that the Groups total activity in Hammerfest increases their level of service and at the same time strengthens the foundation for further commitment in the area.
Cultural change in practice
The backdrop for the establishment of Partnershop at Melkøya is Statoil’s reinforced culture for constant improvements, amongst others when using LEAN as a tool and a driving force. This culture creates guidelines for partners and suppliers.
TESS has two such agreements with Statoil, one for tools and consumables, and one for hoses and hose parts, with multiple transactions and associated costs. Statoil and TESS have worked together on improving and streamlining these agreements to reduce the transaction costs. This has in turn led to the creation of a Partnershop at Mongstad, opened May 2015, and a Baseshop at Mongstad supplybase in March 2017.
The experiences made from these establishments greatly benefits TESS Partnershop Statoil Melkøya. Both of these shops have been great successes, and at the opening of Melkøya a lot of time went into sharing experiences and giving advice.
Statoil and TESS have worked together for nearly 30 years, and their partnership in Hammerfest started in 2004 - where Statoil’s position at Melkøya has had a key position. With the establishment on the island the partnership has been given a new dimension. The Partnershop has a customized venue of 70m2 in the new service building, and a mezzanine with a hose workshop and storage. Prior to the opening a thorough analysis of the product consumption were made, and the one thousand most used items are stocked in the shelves. The products that are not in the shelves can be brought from TESS Hammerfest, or ordered from TESS centrally.
