Maintenance containers to Equinor
TESS has concluded a framework agreement for the lease of the containers, with custom content, to Equinor. The containers are set out for scheduled stoppages or other projects.
“In the event of a scheduled stoppage, the platform is shut down for up to three to four weeks to perform major maintenance and replacement of necessary equipment. These projects are carefully planned and under a tight schedule. It can be quite hectic in the shut-down period”, said TESS Vest Customer Manager Kjetil Io.
All scheduled stoppages have a carefully detailed plan for what is to be done and in what order. It is often associated with demanding processes that must also be coordinated with a number of other activities.
Project at Oseberg Field Centre
Previously, Equinor owned all of its stoppage containers. After completion of the stoppage, the containers were sent to Mongstad for storage for up to four years, until the next scheduled shut-down. While in storage, the equipment was often degraded after several years without the necessary maintenance, resulting in significant costs and time pressure for Equinor.
In this context, Equinor solicited collaboration with TESS on the acquisition of stoppage containers with contents, in order to then lease them out again to Equinor. Responsibility for maintenance, recertification, upgrades and approvals was also taken over by TESS.
One of the first projects was at the Oseberg Field Centre, where TESS delivered three containers with contents just prior to the scheduled shut-down. Several similar installations also took advantage of the offer. The project was a success for both parties and TESS is continuing to offer the solution for the other Equinor platforms.
“We are very pleased with the contract with TESS. The collaboration has worked very well and TESS has delivered beyond the expected service”, said Reidun Spissøy, the Oseberg Field Centre Planned Stoppage Coordinator.
Systems are built up so that TESS receives lists with an overview of the equipment that will be needed during the project. The selection is not necessarily limited to the stock inventory; TESS is flexible and can provide other equipment when needed. When the contents have been selected, the equipment is loaded into suitable containers and sent to the base for thee particular installation.
Contents as desired
TESS supplies both 10- and 20-foot offshore containers. The contents are mainly different hose types, flange connectors, manifoils and various types of tools that are sent offshore.
TESS has built up an infrastructure with light and heat for all the containers during storage, and a maintenance plan for all the equipment. This applies to recertification of hoses and lifting equipment and approvals for containers, electrical components, etc.

“It’s is not just for scheduled stoppages that this type of equipment is needed. It is quite relevant on other projects, involving large-scale replacements and a need for extra resources”, said Kjetil Io.
Relevant approvals and certificates, such as Z-015, will also be placed under TESS's responsibility and follow the delivery.
