Increasing safety on the platforms
In cooperation with Equinor and collaborate drilling contractors, TESS has developed barrier equipment meant to increase the safety on the platforms and drilling floors. The solution is as simple as it is smart: lifting the floor marking and making them barriers at hip height.
Equinor wanted to strengthen their barrier around the «red zone» on the platform drilling floors. «Red zone» is a pre-defined area controlled by key-card admission due to high activity with a lot of moveable equipment and a potential for falling objects. The zone is well known amongst the workers on the platform, but can sometimes be challenging to control for the site managers due to a lot of activity and blind spots.
Working with Equinor and the drilling contractors TESS has developed materials that work as a physical barrier at the same time they are easy to remove when bringing heavy equipment in and out of the area.
The products consist of a module with retractable reel cordons. This is completely red with the writing: Red zone, no entry. The cordon has magnets for easy attachment and removal, and in case of an evacuation, it can be “run through”. In addition, there is a barrier module with a telescopic barrier in red and white. This specifies the zone where authorized personnel can pass with approval from the area manager. The barrier is easily opened and is spring loaded so that it closes automatically after passing through.
Both the cordons and the barrier is delivered with poles and floor magnets to attach it to the deck.
- The solution is scalable which improves the security and simplifies it for areas with higher chances of damage to the personnel, says Bjørn Vindenes, Supply Chain Manager at TESS Vest and responsible for the development.
Some of the demands for the equipment is that it is all identical and recognizable on all the installations. Orders have already been placed for dozens of platforms.
